Build Character

The 7 habits give the ability to work from the inside out to build character of total integrity

Summary

There are three areas that require attention private victories, public victories, and reflection, it takes effort in all three areas to ensure success. They are highly related and understanding and being able to recall the three main areas is essential.

Private Victories

Working on the fiber of our own character traits. There are three habits related to private victories which are discussed in depth later.

  • Be proactive
  • Begin with the end in mind
  • Put first things first

Public Victories

Those situations where we work with other individuals, maybe family members, our spouse, coworkers, and friends. There are three habits related to public victories which are discussed in depth later.

  • Think win-win
  • Seek first to understand then to be understood
  • Synergize
Reflection

This can happen at any time, it is great to be intentional with your reflection but you can also reflect on the fly, while you are in the middle of working on a project or discussing with others. There is just one habit related to reflection which is called ‘Sharpening the Saw’ and will be discussed in depth later.

My Interpretation

No one is perfect. Personally, I think that is a very easy statement to make. The difficult part is admitting to yourself that you have your own personal journey to build out the best version of yourself.

This journey doesn’t happen overnight and that is hard to internalize but an honest way to approach personal improvement.

Set Yourself Up for Success

No matter what religion you practice, or none at all, Sunday is always a great day to sit down and reflect. This is personally what my significant other and I do right now. It is a great time to check in and tell each other what we did this week that is working towards our private or public victories.

Right now, think of a 30-minute block of time during your week, maybe on Sunday right after brunch like in my household. Now schedule it in your calendar!
